Yesterday I talked about understanding your past mistakes so you don't make them in the future.
Today I want to talk about letting the past go. Basically, how can you be happy today if you are still upset about yesterday?
There will be days that aren't good at all, something or someone has done something to get you really good and angry. You go to bed with that anger and it just makes certain that you will wake up with that anger. And instead of greeting each day with a smile and a light heart, you wake up feeling, probably queasy and not ready for the new day.
When something or someone upsets you, try and look at it logically, is it really serious, does it impact you deeply? If not, then leave it in the day it belongs, yesterday. Let it go, don't let it weigh you down and drag on into the next day or even worse, days beyond that.
If it is a person that upset you, see if you can take the time and get the issue resolved. I have found that a truly heartfelt apology will really make the bad feelings go away. I found that out the other day when my boyfriend snapped at me about something and I hung up on him. About 30 minutes later he called and really apologized, not just a simple - I'm sorry I did that, but something I could tell he put thought into. And I told him later that evening, because it was such a sincere apology, it makes me want to try harder too.
So if you are in need of an apology, tell the other person that, that a sincere apology won't just make you feel better, but it will make you want to try harder yourself.
If something upset you, and inanimate objects can, just let it go. There are so few things in life that should be able to ruin your day. You have the power to make or break your day. You can also give that power away if you let someone or something else ruin your day, don't do that. Keep the power for yourself. You can be influenced by others, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty power of it all, do not let others influence you. You know, or you are learning to know, who you are. Take that strength that is inside of you and let it flow forth.
Don't let yesterday be cause for concern, today is what matters and tomorrow will be here soon enough.
