Back to School

Oh NO! most kids are shouting. I know I did when I was a kid. Not every year, but most. It is the end of the summer and freedom is gone. Now they have schedules and homework and maybe even teachers they don't like.

If you look at it that way, yes it could be depressing that school is approaching. But if you look at it as the adventure it could be, your time in school can become fascinating and fun.

A large part is up to our teachers. I always felt I had the connection to kids that a good teacher would have, but not the desire for the education it requires to be a teacher. A good teacher has both, the education and a true love for what she is doing and who she is doing it for.

Parents have to contribute too. First and foremost by making school a priority for your children. And you need to have a positive attitude about it. Even if your experiences weren't the best, you don't need to relay those horror stories to your kids. A lot of their attitude comes from you and if you are respectful of school and your child's teachers, then they will be too.

Now for the students. This is such an important time in your life. I remember my daughter coming to me and asking why she had to do her algebra homework, she'd never use it again. Well, to be honest I agreed with her, algebra will not be something that you will use in your day to day life, but learning how to solve your algebra problems will help you in many other areas of your life, not just math. Algebra requires certain steps you go though and certain thoughts you have to have to get to the correct solution and thereby solve the problem.

Life is like that. No matter who we are, no matter rich or poor, we will all be beset with problems that need to be solved and if we have listened in school, we will have the skill set needed to do so. It won't be X2(10)/25=?? but if you learn to use your mind to put together the steps to the solution, you can apply those in more of your day to day issues.

School is not about keeping kids locked up in a building 9 months of the year, it is about teaching you to learn how to handle the real world. English is a very important subject, if we learn how to properly communicate with each other, the chances of misunderstandings fall and that will bring us closer to peace. Not just for our school or neighborhood, but potentially the world.

So when the end of August is here, don't get depressed, get fired up and go in with the knowledge that what you will be learning will make your life in the future easier, not harder. Knowledge is Power, that is the God's honest truth. So arm yourself for the battle which is life, those well armed have a much better chance of coming out on top. And who doesn't want to be King of the Mountain?!
