We have all heard of, if not seen, the Blind Side. It is the story of Leigh Anne Tuohy and her family. They really made an impact on everyone that has heard their story.
In this past weekend's paper there was an article from them it was called: Small ways you can make a huge difference this summer.
I read the article and it had a lot of the same stuff I've been saying. That sure made me proud. To think I have a similar mindset to someone that is so wonderful, that is cool.
I like the one that said 'Get one, give one.' Leigh Anne says that when you buy something for yourself, take something that you already had and give it away. Like her son buying xbox games, he gets a new one then he takes an old one down to the Boys and Girls Club. I want to adopt that too.
Another thing I learned is that there aren't so many people who are as lucky as some of us, so whatever we can do, isn't too small. I know I have said to myself, that - whatever it is - won't make a difference. But you know, just maybe it will. And if we ever get a chance to do something that MIGHT make a difference we need to do it. Its the ripple effect, like a stone dropped in a pond.
Also, she said that to be a 'cheerful giver' we need to do something that means something to us, to follow our hearts. If we do it as a cheerful giver, we will be more inclined to keep it up.
She also says that sometimes even something as easy as a smile to another person can brighten their day. I know that to be true, or when someone holds a door open for me as I go into a store. No matter my mood, it brightens and I always give them a smile and say thank you.
As you know, my thoughts on all this is if everyone would just think about someone or something other than just themselves, we just might have a chance at peace some time in this century. I know that is a big dream, but one can always hope.
