We have become a society that says equality is the way, it isn’t perfected yet, some people need to learn it. I believe that teachers and parents and all those who have charge over our young people need to make sure that is a lesson that is taught. I feel it is even more important than some classes that are being taught in schools. Like you have a math class you should have a humanity class, starting in kindergarten.
If children aren’t taught that all people are special in some way, and that the differences we have are good, then we have no hope of saving our future. Children have long been taught that differences are bad. That if you aren’t like me you aren’t as good as me. That is so wrong.
Each and every person has something special to give to this world. Your race or religion don’t matter, inside of you is something that will help improve our world. And if we start thinking of it as OUR world, not my world, then the path will become easier and wider. We need to link arms with our fellow human beings and walk side-by-side, not one at a time.
My strengths will cover your weakness and your strengths will cover my weakness and so on. If we all are determined to show this world what would happen if we quit fighting and started working together toward peace, I believe a lot more peace could be achieved. And to do that we have to accept the differences in each other. Maybe your skin is darker than mine, maybe my hair is lighter than yours, maybe you are taller, we all know the list of differences can go on for page after page after page.
When we start looking at those differences as ways for us to learn something new, then there is the positive. If we look at those differences as something to fear, society has no chance. I know there is a lot of us that were raised in a manner that different wasn’t good. And look at where we are at. Wars, all over the place. Our military personnel are losing their lives because someone didn’t like the way someone else prayed.
I know we all like to think our way is the best way, and for us it may be, but that doesn’t make it true for someone else.
Humanity is the quality or state of being humane and humane is marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals. Why isn’t this taught in schools, from kindergarten on? It is more important than math or english or any other subject. What good is 2 + 2 = 4 if we are all dead due to a nuclear bomb set off and the world wiped out?
If we do not learn to accept and trust differences as good things, there is no hope for us all.
