What age is the best?

If you were to ask 50 different people that question, chances are you'd get almost 50 different answers.

I was talking to my girlfriend's granddaughter today, she is 11. She was so cute. When my friend got back on the line today she said her granddaughter is in such a hurry to grow up. And I told her at that age it is common, at our age - none of your business!! :) - we want our ages to go backwards. Then I asked myself, what age is the best?

I answered myself, like I always do when I talk to myself, how can we say this age is the best, that is the eternal non-answerable question.

I remember being 21 and thinking nothing could be better than this, then the same for 26 and then the same for 38. So this is the non-answerable question. We have no idea what next year will bring us and if we are lucky that year will be the best age yet. But that is an open-ended answer. Because the year after that could go either way. I always plan on having a better next year than the one before.

I am older now and in looking back I see every age had its ups and downs. Each age is a treasure, as we get older we get the wisdom we wish we had as kids, and as kids we have the energy we wish we had now. Each age does have its trade offs, but in the long run I firmly believe to live and appreciate each age you are.

To those young ones out there, enjoy the slowness of time you are feeling, because when you get to be my age it seriously starts zooming by. I cannot believe that tomorrow is September and the start of fall. Wasn't it just spring?

We will all hit a rough patches now and then, but I know from experience and so do many others, it too shall pass. Love and learn from each age you are, there are some very valuable lessons to be had no matter your age. If you quit looking at age as a time frame and look at it as a state of mind, then you will possibly be a lot happier.

Revel in your youth, revel in your older years, and even better yet revel more each and every year you are on this planet. Life is good!
