Schedules

I was thinking this weekend I need to make a schedule for myself. I've seen many families that have them to the extreme on shows like Wife Swap - another of my guilty pleasures. But when you think about it, schedules, when used properly can really be helpful.

Like for me, I am trying to write a book. I have it on my external hard drive and it is totally mobile. I can take it and work on it anywhere. But I had only been working on it Sunday nights and maybe a bit on Monday's. I thought, if I keep up at it this way it will never get done. So I resolved to make myself a schedule. I have read in several place that having a schedule for your day makes it easier to remember not only what needs to be done, but to actually get it done.

It doesn't need to be so rigid, all things in life need to have some give and take. But if you stop and think for a minute, wouldn't more organization take a lot of the chaos out of your life. Like my darling daughter, she has 4 children, a full-time job and a home to keep clean. I think it would be wise for her and her husband to sit down together one evening and make a schedule. A schedule of who will do what, when it will be done and what the rewards will be. Of course there have to be rewards, schedules are no fun unless you see ahead of time what the reward will be.

For a family of kids and parents schedules can be life savers. The moment you learn of something that needs to be on the schedule you put it on there. That way it won't be forgotten. You can find scheduling calendars. Some even come with stickers, you can't fool me, even as an adult I know you like stickers, cause I know I do.

So gather your family together on sunny Sunday afternoon, pack a little picnic lunch and take your calendar and hit the park. And make sure you have either colored pencils or markers, color makes things, even chores, more fun.

For my boyfriend and I, since there is only two of us, well three if you count our dog and believe me he is as much a part as a child would be for us, it will most likely be simpler.

Then each person needs to make an individual schedule. Like mine would sort of be - Monday through Friday get up, shower, go to work, come home and then it would be sit on butt and watch TV. Maybe throw a walk with the dog in the occasionally. In thinking about it, I know I spend too much time in front of the TV. So I am modifying my schedule to make sure my book has more of my time, my dog has more of my time and especially my boyfriend and I have more us time.

I fully believe that if you make the schedule bright and cheery and the chores a part of everybody, then life will roll along at a much easier pace with more rest and fun and happiness for everyone.
