Yep, this another wise tidbit from the wrapping of a dove candy. (And I only allow myself 2, maybe 3, a day so don’t worry I’ll get too fat eating dove candy looking for ideas. :)
Today’s dove said: Attitude can make all the difference in the world. (From Ellen, Cushing, TX)
Boy did she hit that nail on the head. Attitude is something that can make or break so many things in our lives. A positive attitude will give you such a head start on the wonder of life. If you always have a poor attitude, your life will be so much harder.
Take two people, both make the same amount of money – not much in this day and age – and they have similar home situations, say spouse and a kid or two. Of course we know that both of these people have issues with money, the mortgage may be running late, groceries are so expensive and the car needs something fixed on it. The person with a poor attitude will sit around and bemoan their fate. Why me, why is life so hard, I don’t deserve this… That list could go on for miles. While they are sitting there complaining and hanging onto that bad attitude what is being done to solve those issues? Nothing, nothing at all.
Then we have the other person with these issues and they say okay, let’s have a family meeting and work on this together, they take a hold of a positive attitude . They say, let’s look first at all the good in our lives, then let’s look at the issues and figure a way to solve them. They look at the issues and acknowledge that it won’t be easy, but they have faith that they will get through these times. The way to solve these issues can come in many ways, but you have to be open to them. Keeping an open mind and a positive attitude will get things done.
Another thing about attitude is what it can do to the people around you. Maybe you feel the right to have a pity party, well fine, but you inevitably push that pity party onto the others in your circle. Your complaining and moaning does nothing for their attitude and it really does nothing for your attitude. Do you really want to bring everyone around you down too? If you are a decent human being and I’d like to bet that you are, then the answer to that is no.
So, you ask, how do I go about changing my attitude? I still have all these issues piling on me and I feel lost. First I recommend acknowledging those issues but try doing it by trying to look for solutions. You will feel so empowered by fixing those issues. They won’t be fixed overnight, but each day you push forward and make progress, you will begin to feel better and better. Hold onto those moments. Like all things personal changes are an ongoing process. You will slip back. That is okay, pick yourself up, brush yourself off and hit it again.
You will be amazed at how you will be feeling with each accomplishment. Even the little ones. Take pleasure in them too. No matter how small, an accomplishment is an accomplishment. Take a moment and pat yourself on your back and give yourself a 'good job'.
The more you put forth a positive attitude the easier you will find it is to fix things. And the more encouraged the people around you, who depend on you, will become. They will become your biggest cheerleaders.
Your attitude can either bring rain or sunshine with it. I for one always vote for sunshine.
